ANKARA: Ulus door
A Threshold Between Eras Situated at the historic gateway to Ankara's old city, the lighting design for Gençlik Park transforms the Ulus Door into a luminous portal at the transition point from the "invisible" history of the background city to the vibrant, active "visual realm" of the modern park; using the pond as a protagonist, the design doubles the visual experience. The water serves as a horizontal mirror, reflecting the space to create ambient clarity without glare, as an exercise in promoting safety and security through visual beauty rather than harsh utility. The distinct color hierarchy—from the magenta perimeter to the blue stepped cascade—defines paths and boundaries, turning a transition through lighting into an expansion of the landscape's poetic potential rather than simply fighting the darkness.
